About Franciscan Physicians Hospital

Franciscan Physicians Hospital in Munster – the newest addition to the Sisters of St. Francis Health Services, Inc. hospital system – brings healthcare services to the marketplace via a small, specialty location. In a unique partnership with community physicians, the hospital is building centers of excellence in the foundational areas of cardiovascular and orthopedic services.

Many of the physicians who bring clinical expertise to our partnership also operate private practices within and around the intimate setting of Franciscan Physicians Hospital, making it convenient for patients to receive needed services.

Our goal is to become a premier heart center in Northwest Indiana by offering a new advancement in cardio-thoracic surgery.

Because of our small number of beds, our cardio-thoracic team can give patients special post-operative care, with patient recovery and safety our primary goal. In addition to advanced and traditional cardiac surgical procedures, we provide non-invasive cardiology and cardiac cath lab for both diagnostic and interventional procedures. In orthopedics, we’re developing a center of excellence that encompasses traditional and minimally invasive joint replacement, spinal surgical services and specialty surgical services for the extremities.

Franciscan Physicians Hospital may be small in structure, but our vision for providing specialty healthcare is big.

In 2006, Franciscan Physicians Hospital was born into the Sisters of St. Francis Health Services, Inc., (SSFHS) health system.

Franciscan Physicians Hospital was acquired in November 2006, with final closing for the purchase and name change approved on April 5, 2007. Future resources generated by the Franciscan Physicians Hospital will flow back to the Sisters of St. Francis Health Services, Inc. to fund other not-for-profit hospitals operated by the health system in the Northern Indiana Region.
